The Bugs of Everquest

Here lies a list of common annoying bugs that afflict Everquest. The primary emphasis here is on technical problems with the game that are likely to occur in most play sessions. While a few minor problems are bearable, when half of one's actions in-game are cheesy workarounds to bugs, thats when it's gone beyond reason.

The developers of Everquest seem to have turned a blind eye on these problems. They have all been /bug'd in game, many even when they were discovered in beta, but they have been simply ignored.

On a side note, I play a beastlord, so a number of bugs are pet-related.

Things here will be moved to the Fixed List, as they are fixed.

--The List--

Normal pet procs steal Steeltrap Jaws' counters.
Date Added: 2006 September 26
Type: Bug
Description:
The counters Steeltrap Jaws has for the number of procs remaining are getting used up by other procs. Steeltrap is designed to proc 4 times then fade. As it stands now though, when another proc goes off, steeltrap loses a counter. Epic proc in especially bad about this doe to its high proc rate, oftentimes causing Steeltrap to fade without ever having proc'd at all.

The thread: http://eqforums.station.sony.com/eq/board/message?board.id=beastlordbalance&message.id=3696 has a screenshot demonstrating this.

Casting shrink grows pets.
Date Added: 2005 July 31
Type: Bug
Description:
Pets must be shrunk using tiny companion on raids else they get in the way. However, casting shrink on a pet that has already been shrunk using tiny companion grows the pet. The pet then has to be manually re-shrunk with tiny companion. This is primarily a problem in groups with a shaman. Pet Affinity combined with shaman's group shrink means our pet gets frequently un-shrunk.

Spell timer doesn't reset when target runs out of range.
Date Added: 2005 July 28
Type: Bug
Description:
When casting a spell with a sizable recast time (such as Ferocity), the recast timer fails to reset if the target runs out of range of the spell before it lands.

Protective Spirit discipline doesn't lower fall damage.
Date Added: 2005 December
Type: Bug
Description:
Protective Spirit discipline originally protected from fall damage as well as melee damage. When all disciplines were changed over to the combat ability and endurance system a long while ago, this was broken. The ability no longer protects from fall damage.

"Toggle last two targets" key disrupted by pet spells.
Date Added: 2005 July 31
Type: Bug
Description:
Casting a pet spell changes one's target. However, this does something unusual to the functionality of the "toggle last two targets" key. Pressing the key after casting a pet spell does not return you to your previous target as expected.

Note that resolving the "Pet spells change target to pet" issue would likely also fix this at the same time.

/tar targets pet instead of owner.
Date Added: 2005 July 28
Type: Annoyance
Description:
/target or /tar will often target a beastlord's warder instead of the beastlord. For example, /tar rar will often give another player "Rarrum's Warder" as their target. This is primarily just an annoyance to buffers, but it can also be dangerous if a healer is trying to /target a beastlord real quick to heal them.

One common suggested fix for this is to allow beastlords to name their warders.

Pet spells change target to pet.
Date Added: 2005 July 28
Type: Annoyance
Description:
Casting pet-spells changes our target to our pet. This has especially become a problem lately when using "Growl of the Panther" line of spells, which has to be recast every minute. This is even potentially dangerous if other people are assisting a beastlord who is using the spell.

Ideally all pet spells would simply cast normally, without changing our target around.

Keyboard pet commands locked out while casting a spell.
Date Added: 2005 July 31
Type: Annoyance
Description:
It is impossible to use normal hotkey pet controls while casting a spell. A majority of high end pet classes have a hotkey with 2 lines in it: /pet hold and /pet back off. Many people use hotkeys so they can fully control their pet using only the keyboard. However, all hotkeys are locked out while casting a spell. The only option for pet control while casting something are to manually type the command, or if the pet window even has the command, click the button there.

/pet focus is not preserved when zoning.
Date Added: 2005 July 28
Type: Bug
Description:
Everytime we zone, /pet focus gets turned off on our pet, and has to be manually re-enabled. Ideally it would just be on by default when summoning a fresh pet (if you have the aa of course).

Additionally, toggling pet focus turns off /pet hold, if it was previously turned on.

Spells that target both owner and pet aren't focused correctly.
Date Added: 2005 July 28
Type: Bug
Description:
Spells such as "Growl of the Panther" and "Bond of the Wild", which hit both player and pet, are not being extended properly by items with extended duration focus effects.

Update: As of 2006 Feb, AA that extend duration work correctly on these spells now.

Empathic Fury fails to fail if a player-only discipline is up.
Date Added: 2006 May 10
Type: Bug
Description:
The most common way to hit this bug is trying to use Empathic Fury discipline when Protective Spirit Discipline is up, though using it while any self-only discipline is up will do it also. Rather than failing, the effect still "partially" goes off. The ability timer and endurance are used up and the player is not affected at all, but the pet recieves the effect.

Chat text lost while zoning.
Date Added: 2005 July 28
Type: Bug
Description:
It is common for messages sent in both in chat channels and cross server tells to never reach their recepient. This happens all the time when the person to recieve the message is zoning when a message is sent to them.
